A production sound mixer is the person on a film set in charge of recording all audio from dialog to any other sound during a film shoot. The production mixer answers directly to the Director and Assistant Director and is in charge of the boom operator and sound tech on set. It's the sound departments responsibility to find and eliminate any unwanted sounds on a set which may include refrigerators or air conditioning units to many other annoyances. The production mixer is also responsible for choosing how to 'mic' up a scene of actors. Choosing the right microphone for the job is important since each microphone has a special purpose. Sometimes small lavaliere microphones hidden on a person are best, and sometimes they can't be used at all. Knowing what tools are going to get the best sound possible is priceless. If a production mixer is unable to get a good recording at the time of performance it's a costly and time consuming process getting that dialog back. Reshooting a scene or heading into the studio for ADR(Automatic Dialog Recording) are both options but could put a project over budget, or even worse, in a position where the project may never get finished - due to lack of funding. With an experienced sound mixer on set these things can be prevented. Most often the production mixer is brought on to the crew during preproduction. During this time between preproduction and the principle photography locations are getting secured. It's best to have the production mixer scout each location for things that could be problematic to the quality of recording at each location. By doing this, if any action is necessary, a reasonable plan can be made ahead of time rather than be confronted with the issue on the spot. For example, if a scene requires a nice quiet conference room, but that conference room is located at the airport and jets are taking off every five minutes, it might be a good idea to find another location. Think this is over the top? It's happened. Here at JackedIn Entertainment we have years of experience behind us. We know what it takes and have the tools to get it right the first time. After all, there may be no second chance. Samples of our work coming soon. Our film rig consists of the following: (5) Sennheiser EW G2100 wireless lav systems, (1) dedicated from mixer to camera.
