Gizmo Hammer (2009)

This project was created in Reason 4 and an older application some of us may remember, Cool Edit Pro. It was inspired as a repsonse to the growing popularity of the dirty electro/wonk style of music in Austin. As with many tracks designed to be mixed by other artists I started with a simple 4 measure intro and worked from there. The vocal sample was recorded in my project studio using an AT4040 microphone and run into Cool Edit Pro using a MOTU 828MKii external sound card. The sample was originally intended for another track which was discontinued. After the sample was recorded to Cool Edit with -6db peaks it was normalized and imported to Reason with the NT-XX sampler. Compression and additional processing was done in Reason.

The OC [club edit] (2009)

There's not a whole lot to say about this song. It was created in Reason 4 and was born from the result of a soundtrack for an exercise video, which of course no where near as fun as this track is. Listen, copy, steal, and enjoy.

Just a vocal sample (2007)

Now, at first you may think this project is a bit random, but there's an interesting story behind it. In the spring of 2007 we did production mixing for an education film for the Chinese Lauguage department at the Southwestern University of Texas in Georgetown, TX. Iv'e tried to get a hold of footage from this project with no luck, but 6 months after the production, one of the talent, Cecilia Ling, contacted me about doing some vocal recording of her speech as a demonstration of competence. So what is so interesting about this? The vocal samples were recorded in a isolation vocal booth manufactured at Advanced Film Mechanix (now out of business to my knowledge) by myself using an AT4040 microphone and MOTU 828MKii sound card with no processing. The booth was 4' x 3.5' x 9' and created for $27. Ok, maybe it's not that interesting, but it just goes to show: quality can come from a small budget and that the gear isn't necessarily what makes a project sound good. It's the people behind it.

Rave is King (2009)

Of course this track was inspired by Fukkk Off's original, but this creation is an original one itself. Vocals we're recorded using Cubase, an AT4040 microphone, and a MOTU 828MKii audio card. The vocal sample was then placed in Reason 4 using the NN-XT sampler. Compression was then applied with a 3.5:1 ratio and futher processed with disortion and reverb. The bass line which really holds this track together was produced with some interesting technique. After the wave form from the synth was down pat, I split the signal into two bands, a LP from 20Hz to about 750Hz and 750 on up. The high band is processed with some serious reverb, so as the filter on the synth opens up, the higher end get the big presence while the low end stays solid and slightly gritty. So now that you know, enjoy.
